The secret to winning your league this year is not about hitting the perfect first-round pick. It is about getting value late and finding those under-the-radar players who will outplay their draft spots. Here are the eight sleepers I am targeting everywhere.
Brandon Miller – Charlotte Hornets
I have been watching Brandon Miller for years, waiting for him to finally stay healthy. This might be the year he breaks through. Before last season’s injury, Miller was a top 45 player and was firing off crazy volume from three. If he stays on the floor, he has real top 40 upside.
Ausar Thompson – Detroit Pistons
Everyone focuses on Amen Thompson, but Ausar deserves more hype. He is still going outside the top 100 in some drafts, but sharp managers are taking him in the 60s and 70s. At the end of last year, he played close to 28 minutes per game. With 30 minutes, top 60 potential is there. I am drafting Ausar Thompson wherever I can.
Collin Sexton – Charlotte Hornets
Collin Sexton has been waiver-wire fodder for years, but Charlotte is a new environment and opportunity. LaMelo Ball’s injury history means Sexton will almost certainly get his shot. Last season, he quietly turned in a borderline top 100 campaign and hit 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from three the past two years. If LaMelo misses time, Sexton’s value could explode.
Kristaps Porzingis – Atlanta Hawks
Porzingis in Atlanta is shockingly undervalued. He has not finished lower than 48th since his rookie year, and last season delivered 19.5 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 blocks per game. Pick 80 is far too late for someone with top 40 potential on a new team.
John Collins – LA Clippers
Collins was top 45 before getting hurt last year. He is falling to around pick 100 and now lands on the league’s oldest team. The Clippers will need him to play big minutes when their veterans inevitably miss time. If the opportunity is there, John Collins can put up strong late-season numbers.
Santi Aldama – Memphis Grizzlies
Aldama’s window is early season while Jaren Jackson Jr. is banged up. His ADP is sitting between 130 and 140, but he is worth reaching for. When given 25-plus minutes, Aldama averaged 15 points, seven boards, three assists, a steal, and 2.5 threes. That is great multi-category production for the price.
Alex Sarr – Washington Wizards
Sarr has plenty of rookie growing pains, but his shot blocking cannot be ignored. He averaged more than two blocks per 36 minutes and will benefit from added veteran leadership in Washington. He is a late-round flier who can easily win you blocks and categories with a few hot stretches.
TJ McConnell – Indiana Pacers
If TJ McConnell is available late, I am not passing on him. It’s worth noting that he is currently banged up, so only grab him if you have an IR/IL spot to spare. People are distracted by the other Pacers names, but TJ’s production is too steady. He put up 9.1 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in just 18 minutes a game last season. When he sees 20 or more minutes, the numbers jump even higher. He shoots over 51 percent for his career and, if called on for bigger minutes, could be a difference maker.
These are the eight names I am locking in everywhere because they are being undervalued in drafts. If you want to win your league, build your core but do not miss out on these sleepers when others are not paying attention. Grab them, enjoy the value, and let your league mates wonder how you keep pulling it off.
