Joker Gone Wild: Nikola Jokic Has Leveled Up!
The Greatest Fantasy Basketball Player Ever?
Coming off of an MVP season normally means there’ll be some overall regression in play for a majority of fantasy players. However, that sentiment does not apply to Nikola Jokic, who has gone above and beyond to one-up his excellent 2023-24 season. The Joker is averaging more points, assists, rebounds, and steals while shooting a better clip from 3PT range. Jokic is top 3 in points, assists, rebounds, and 3PT% this season, as he continues to showcase his sheer daily dominance. The 6’11” center from Serbia is a defender’s worst nightmare as he’s able to take advantage of smaller players in the post while being able to draw the opposing big man away from the paint with his high shooting efficiency. If he’s doubled, Jokic has the vision to find open cutters and shooters for the Nuggets.
While his usage rate has dropped slightly this season, the increase in touches displays Jokic’s high involvement within Denver’s offense. Nikola has also looked to find his shot more often this year as his FGA has risen by 1.5 attempts. This paired with his improved True Shooting % has led to a career 29.1 PPG this season. Despite averaging slightly more turnovers, Jokic is still moving the ball effectively as he’s accumulated a higher assist to turnover ratio (3.1 this season compared to 2.9 last season). If this season were to end today, Jokic would be averaging the most fantasy points per game ever at 69.4 FPPG (current highest is Michael Jordan’s 1987-88 season with 65.3 FPPG). While the Joker might not be able to secure the NBA MVP over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this year, he’s done more than enough to be the Fantasy Basketball MVP for the 2024-25 season, as it’ll be a few weeks until he secures the greatest fantasy basketball season of all time.
