The regular season may be winding down in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean fantasy hoops have stopped yet. Though some leagues wrapped up last week, plenty still have a week or two left, and those roto players will venture on until April 13.
Of course, with only a handful of games left for each team this season, the injury report shenanigans will only continue to get worse as the teams at the top of the standings try to keep their stars healthy and fresh for the postseason, while the teams at the bottom try to get a few extra lottery balls and a better chance at Cooper Flagg.
It’s only going to get worse, which makes streaming more important than ever. Unfortunately, with the amount of players on two-way deals seeing significant minutes, teams’ rotations tend to vary from game to game. A random player may have a big night, but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll be able to replicate it or even get the chance to. That’s why it’s important to maximize games played from your streamers (unless you’re in a league that has a games cap) and look for situations that could open the door for more minutes.
Over the final four days of this week, only Cleveland and San Antonio play three games. For the Cavs, they haven’t locked up the conference yet, but they’ve already shown a tendency to rest their stars from time to time. They have a back-to-back with the Spurs and Pistons on Thursday and Friday, and with Detroit being a tougher matchup, it wouldn’t be shocking if Donovan Mitchell or other members of their core four got the night off against San Antonio. Ty Jerome and De’Andre Hunter would be the top options to step up if Cleveland gives any starter the night off, but if you’re looking for a deeper cut, Sam Merrill could be a sneaky option.
For San Antonio, they have a back-to-back with the Celtics and Warriors on Saturday and Sunday. They haven’t been resting players for either leg of B2Bs, but there is still some enticing streaming upside in their rotation. Keldon Johnson has had an excellent March and is a great option in points formats. He isn’t as widely available as most streaming options, so if you’re in a more competitive league, Julian Champagnie is another option to consider, though he doesn’t have the same upside that other players in their rotation hold.
Boston and Denver only play once between Thursday and Sunday. Not ideal for streaming if you have limited moves.
If you’re interested in taking advantage of back-to-backs, Cleveland and Utah each have a B2B on Thursday and Friday, while the 76ers and Spurs each have one on Saturday and Sunday. Both Utah and Philly have been a mess when it comes to their rotations. The Jazz have been better since being hit with a massive fine by the league, but it has made things more complex for us fantasy managers since they now play their starters in a limited capacity instead of benching them altogether. Kyle Filipowski has been the most consistent underrostered player for the Jazz, though Brice Sensabaugh and Johnny Juzang have had some productive games from time to time. Their upside will be dependent on the availability of the typical starters.
Quentin Grimes has been the guy for the 76ers, but he is likely rostered in every league that is still active. Justin Edwards, Jared Butler and Guerschon Yabusele have been the most consistent producers for Philly outside of Grimes. The 76ers’ rotation has been so tight due to the number of injuries they are dealing with that anyone available could be considered worthy of a dart throw.
